Woodstock Man Charged with Wife's Murder Following Domestic Dispute

Cherokee County authorities report fatal shooting in Daventry Crossing neighborhood

A tragic incident unfolded in the Daventry Crossing neighborhood of unincorporated Woodstock, Georgia, as a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal shooting. On Sunday night, Cherokee County deputies responded to reports of gunfire at a residence, where they discovered 48-year-old Tenisha Williams deceased. Her husband, 47-year-old Kelvin Williams, was taken into custody at the scene.

According to Capt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the altercation began as a family argument that tragically escalated. "The father grabbed the weapon, tried to shoot his son, missed his son, and then turned the weapon on his wife and killed her," Baker stated. The couple's 16-year-old son and a 4-year-old child were present during the incident but were unharmed. Both children are now under the care of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.

Neighbors expressed shock over the event, describing the Williams family as cordial. They noted that Kelvin Williams had suffered multiple strokes and was disabled. Authorities confirmed that there had been no prior calls to the residence. Deputies are urging anyone experiencing domestic turmoil to seek help before situations turn violent. "If you feel threatened, we always recommend people call 911," Baker advised. "Get out of the house if you have to, before it gets to this point."

Kelvin Williams is currently being held without bond at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center. He faces charges including murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and first-degree cruelty to children. This incident has left the community grappling with the sudden loss and the circumstances surrounding it.

In related news, Cherokee County has seen a series of recent criminal activities. On July 18, 2025, an undercover operation led to the arrest of 12 individuals accused of attempting illegal sexual activity with minors. Additionally, on July 17, 2025, a Lithonia man was sentenced to 35 years in prison for a 2024 shooting at Lake Allatoona. These events underscore the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to address and prevent violent crimes within the community.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting in Daventry Crossing. They encourage residents to remain vigilant and to report any signs of domestic unrest to prevent future tragedies.
