Focused Leadership and Dedicated Educators Propel CCSD to New Heights |
The Cherokee County School System (CCSD) has demonstrated significant progress in student achievement, as evidenced by the latest Georgia Milestones Assessment results.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, CCSD saw improvements in 19 out of 27 performance areas compared to the previous year.
This marks the tenth consecutive year that CCSD has outperformed state averages in all tested subjects, further widening the performance gap in multiple areas.
Notably, high school Algebra I scores experienced remarkable growth, alongside increased percentages of fourth graders excelling in English Language Arts and fifth graders in Mathematics.
These achievements underscore the exceptional impact of CCSD teachers on student learning.
Overall, Mathematics saw improvements in six out of seven categories, with significant increases in fifth, seventh, and eighth grades, as well as Algebra I.
English Language Arts improved in three out of seven categories, with the largest gains in fourth and seventh grades.
Reading scores rose in five out of seven categories, including third, fourth, sixth, and seventh grades, and American Literature.
Science showed improvement across all tested areas, with notable gains in fifth and eighth grades, Physical Science, and Biology.
Social Studies saw a significant increase in eighth grade performance.
School Board Chair Janet Read Welch expressed her satisfaction with the results, stating, "As school board members, we make sure our students are learning and growing each year, and this year showed us we are on the right track."
Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis highlighted the district's mission to ensure students learn more, grow more, and achieve more in a CCSD classroom than they could anywhere else.
In addition to academic achievements, CCSD has been recognized for its commitment to literacy and math excellence.
In January 2025, State School Superintendent Richard Woods visited Little River Elementary School to present special banners to 15 CCSD schools honored for outstanding performance in these areas.
Four of these schools excelled in both literacy and math, reflecting the district's dedication to comprehensive student development.
These accomplishments contribute to the positive reputation of Cherokee County, Georgia schools, affirming their status as institutions committed to academic excellence and student success. |
